Custom Embroidery for Wedding Dress

Description

This is a wedding dress that we recently embroidered for a local designer dressmaker, Angie Seymour ( angieseymoursilks.co.uk  Angie-Seymour-Silks), in High Peak, Derbyshire.

It was quite challenging. We embroidered the panels prior to the dress being sewn together, and there was only one chance to get it right, so nail biting stuff. It took 3 separate sash frame hoopings to do the front and the same again to do the back, and the fabric had to be aligned accurately to keep the pattern on the 2 sides of the gussets even. We used 2 layers of directional tearaway backing crossed at 90 degrees for registration accuracy over the large sash frame area, with a top layer of Madeira self adhesive backing to allow us to position the fabric against alignment marks sewn onto the backing before applying the fabric.

The fabric is a heavy silk duchess satin, very shiny and very densely woven. We had to use a 70 sharp needle as the normal medium ball needles for knitwear found the fabric too dense and caused drumming.

Each scroll piece is about 3 thousand stitches with a heavy zigzag underlay to make it really big and rounded. There are 7 pieces down each side of the front and 9 down each side of the back, totalling about 100,000 stitches.

Thanks to Angie Seymour for the photographs.
